Joey Kienle joins the Miramar College coaching staff in 2014 as an assistant coach for the men's water polo team.
Kienle is the head coach of Clairemont HS’ boy’s and girl’s water polo teams. His teams won Clairemont's first ever CIF playoff match game (girls, 2014), as well as Clairemont's first ever league championship for boys (2013) and girls (2014). Previous to taking over at Clairemont, Kienle was an asst. girls water polo coach at Torrey Pines HS (2012), helping the Falcons to a league championship and the CIF D-I Finals. Kienle has also served as an assistant coach in Miramar head coach Troy Merkel’s Mission Bay HS girl’s water polo program (2008-09), helping the Lady Bucs to two league championships and two CIF playoff appearances. Five of his players have gone on to play NCAA Division I water polo. He is also the head coach for Sunset Water Polo Club’s 18U and 16U girls teams, and the assistant coach for Sunset's 18U and 16U boys teams.
As a player, Kienle played for Whittier College from 2010-11, with his 2010 squad reaching the SCIAC Championship Finals and earning a #20 national ranking in NCAA Division 1, while earning 3rd-team NCAA D-III All-America honors. At Grossmont College from 2008-2009, he helped the Griffins to PCAC championships in 2008 and 2009, where they were a CCCAA Semi-Finalist in 2008, and earned 2nd team All-PCAC honors in 2009. He was a four-year starter at Mission Bay HS, where he earned Newcomer of the Year honors, all-league honors from 2005-07, and was league Defender of the Year in 2006 and MVP in 2007.
Kienle holds a B.A. in Philosophy and French from Whittier College. He is single & lives in San Diego.
